Rural house
East Sussex
A new home within a sensitive, rural location, on the edges of an area of Ancient Woodland within an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (ANOB). The form of the new home draws on agricultural references and precedents, using simple strong linear forms to create a replacement dwelling for the bungalow already on the site.
Living, dining and entertaining spaces are gathered under a long timber roof opening up to the woodland, whilst more private spaces for bedrooms, bathroom and a study are created within flint walls and a zinc roof with overhanging eaves.
Influenced too, by work of Danish painter Oluf Høst who documented gaps and spaces in agricultural buildings in different light conditions and seasons. (see images below)
